80K People at KAVKAZ-2020 Exercise


KAVKAZ-2020 (Caucasus-2020) multilateral strategic command-post exercise is to have 80,000 people approximately, said the Russian Ministry of Defence today.

"About 80,000 people in total are expected to be involved in the KAVKAZ-2020 strategic command-post exercise (this includes combat support units, combat service support units, technical support units, air defense and naval units, as well as special troops (the Federal National Guard Troops Service and the Ministry for Emergency Situations),"  the Ministry told journalists.

As for the vehicles and equipment involved in this exercise, there are going to be about 450 mechanized infantry combat vehicles (MICV) and armored personnel carriers (APC), 200 artillery systems and multiple-launch rocket systems, as and 250 tanks.

The ministry also noted that military from Armenia, Belarus, China, Myanmar and Pakistan will take part with a total of about  1,000 military. As for observers, these include Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Sri Lanka.

The KAVKAZ-2020 Exercise strategic exercise is aimed at assessing the ability of the armed forces to ensure military security in Russia’s southwest, where serious terrorist threats persist and preparing for the strategic command-staff drills. The main training grounds that will be involved are located in the Southern Military District.
