Localising US Military Armoured Industry in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia announced the establishment of the "Oshkosh Altadrea Manufacturing", which will be the first joint venture specialising in land systems in the Kingdom with a majority-Saudi ownership. This comes as a result of signing an agreement between Oshkosh Defence, a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation, and Altadrea Manufacturing Co.

Saudi Press Agency reported the signing of the agreement today. The "Oshkosh Altadrea Manufacturing" project will include a mixture of the pioneering expertise of Oshkosh Defence in the manufacturing of tactical wheeled vehicles, and the unprecedented experiences of Altadrea Manufacturing Co. which has been able to meet the requirements of military vehicles for their clients in Saudi Arabia for over 20 years.

John Bryant, an executive vice president of Oshkosh Corporation and the president of Oshkosh Defense, said that the two companies have been working closely together for more than two year to establish this joining venture, by transferring its technologies and capabilities.

Preparations for launching this joint venture included applications of the efficiency of manufacturing, and the joint maintenance and repair of Oshkosh Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (MRAP), and MRAP All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) currently serving within the Royal Saudi Land Forces.

The venture will also work on providing and designing its first vehicles, which will be built based on the model of the Oshkos Defense Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) cargo 4x4 . Through this model, the joint venture will combine the cabin, chassis and other parts of the locally manufactured vehicle, and thus the the “Oshkosh Altadrea Manufacturing” 4×4 vehicle will be the first product of the venture that has intellectual property rights to design the armoured cabin in the Kingdom.
