Garmon Mobile Radar Enters Service with AF in Siberia

The Garmon radar station has entered service with the air defence forces of the Central Military District in Tuva, said the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defence today.

"The radar arrived for air defence units of a motor rifle formation of the 41st all-arms army. It is designed to detect an air enemy and control the airspace in the interests of short-and medium-range anti-aircraft missile batteries," said the Ministry's press service.

Garmon radar consists of several units packed for transportation in special containers. Each container weighs less than 30 kg. The technical post consists of equipment for processing the collected information, navigation equipment and a control panel with a monitor for displaying information about the air situation. In addition, the calculation has a radio station for communication. It takes about five minutes for a three-person crew to assemble the station and prepare it for work.

The operating station is capable of detecting air targets at ranges from 1 to 40 km at an altitude of up to 10 km. The maximum speed of the detected target is limited to 700 m/s.
