T-14 Armata Deliveries to Russian Troops Start in 2021

Russian armed troops will start to receive the serial deliveries of the T-14 Armata in 2021, said Sergey Chemezov, the CEO of the Rostec State Corporation on Monday.

"Serial deliveries of the T-14 tank based on the Armata platform will begin in 2021. This is, undoubtedly, the world’s best tank today. In the future, this vehicle will become the main battle tank in the Russian Army," said Chemezov to reporters at a briefing on 7 December.

As part of the efforts to create ground combat robots capable of autonomous reconnaissance or attacking enemy positions, Armata will be maximally automated, Chemezov said. "If we talk about Armata, then everything will be automated as much as possible."

He continues, "For example, the crew does not need to accurately aim, it is only necessary to approximately aim the gun at the target, and the electronics will do everything on its own - it will accurately determine the distance to the target and aim the gun at it. Thus, this vehicle uses elements of artificial intelligence that help the crew to fire."

He added that the same algorithm is applied to other combat robotics, including the one tested in Syria.

The unmanned version of Armata will not go into production, however, the unmanned technologies on this vehicle are being tested, he noted.

He added that last year, Rostec issued all necessary permits for the export of the T-14 Armata tanks and that they have already started promoting the tank among foreign clients.

"We are advertising this tank to foreign customers. This year, it was demonstrated ‘live’ at the Army forum: visitors could come up to it, take a picture of it and touch it. It is a pity it has been impossible to demonstrate it abroad yet due to the absence of foreign exhibitions."

Uralvagonzavod defense manufacturer has developed the T-14 tank based on the Armata combat platform.
