The Council of Defence Ministers of the CIS Member States Celebrated its 28th Anniversary

Among the statutory bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Council of Ministers of Defence (CMD) of the CIS member States occupies a special place. It was created on February 14, 1992 by the decision of the Council of CIS heads. Heads of military departments of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan participated in the work of CMD, Moldova, Turkmenistan and Ukraine were present as observers.

The CMD considers conceptual approaches to issues of military policy and military cooperation of the CIS member States and coordinates the efforts of the Ministries of Defence of the Commonwealth States to implement agreements and decisions of the Council of heads of state in the field of defence and military security.

The main activity of the CMD is meetings that take place in Moscow, other cities of Russia and the Commonwealth countries. In addition, working meetings, consultations, meetings, and exchanges of views on topical issues of military cooperation are held.

One of the most important results of joint efforts of the Commonwealth States was the development of the draft Concept of military cooperation of the CIS member States for the period up to 2025, approved by the CMD at the 77th meeting in Baku.

This year, of course, critical is the preparation and holding of events dedicated to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic war.
