The first copy of the Mi-171A3 offshore helicopter is being built in close cooperation with several serial plants of the Russian Helicopters holding and the "Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant."

The main task of the Mi-171A3 is servicing offshore drilling platforms for companies in the fuel and energy complex. It can carry people, cargo, and, if necessary, carry out search and rescue operations - for this, an additional installation of a specialised search complex, on-board winches and medical equipment is provided. The operating company can convert it into a search and rescue helicopter at its own base.

“For the first offshore helicopter in Russia, unique solutions have been developed to ensure the safety of flights over the water surface. The on-board equipment of the machine carries out navigation in high latitudes and communication with sea vessels. The helicopter is equipped with an emergency splashdown system and liferafts; a new crash-resistant fuselage has been developed for it. The assembly of individual components and assemblies of the helicopter has already started. The first flight copy is planned to be assembled at the beginning of 2021 at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant. In the same year, we intend to demonstrate for the first time at the MAKS aerospace show as one of the key innovations of the State Corporation, ”said Anatoly Serdyukov, industrial director of the Rostec aviation cluster.

After completion of the assembly, the helicopter will be sent to the Mil and Kamov NCV, where it will be retrofitted with avionics on the basis of the National Helicopter Engineering Center. Then a cycle of ground and flight tests will be carried out. Other enterprises of the holding will also take an active part in the production of the helicopter. The Kazan Helicopter Plant will manufacture a helicopter cargo floor, unified with the Mi-38 cargo floor. AAK "Progress" is engaged in the production of parts from composite materials - the nose and side panels of the middle part of the fuselage.

“The Mi-171A3 is an extremely popular machine for offshore operations, created in cooperation with Rostec holdings. The expansion of hydrocarbon production on the Arctic shelf requires a fleet of reliable and modern helicopters capable of operating in the most difficult weather and climatic conditions, ”noted Andrey Boginsky, General Director of the Russian Helicopters holding. “From 2022 we will be ready to hand over the first production helicopters to the launch customer.”

Mi-171A3 is a multipurpose helicopter that meets the most modern Russian and foreign aviation standards, including IOGP requirements. The development of the helicopter began in 2018. The maximum take-off weight of the aircraft is 13,000 kg, the number of passengers carried is up to 24 people, and the maximum flight range is 1,000 km.

The helicopter is designed for all-weather operation in a wide range of climatic conditions, including maritime, tropical and cold climates, in the ambient temperature range from -50 to +50 ° C. The onboard equipment of the Mi-171A3 will provide automatic and manual control of the helicopter at all stages of flight, from takeoff to landing, with the possibility of automatic piloting both along air routes and in unregulated airspace, regardless of the degree of ground radio navigation support.
