Tor-M2 Modification Under Development

Development work has started to create a modification of the Tor-M2 shrot-range air defence system. The modified version is expected swim across water obstacles.

Major-General Alexander Leonov, Chief of the Air Defence Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, made that statement in an interview he gave to the National Defence journal.

Leonov said that there were plans to re-equip air defence units with the Tor-M2 short-range air defence system, and to simultaneously withdraw previous generation weapon models from the combat personnel.

According to Leonov, deliveries of the modified Tor-M2 systems to the armed forces is to be done by 2027.

The modified Tor-M2 will be based on a platform on a wheeled chassis. Most significantly,  the Tor-M2 Modification will bring with it the ability of the system to float and overcome water barriers.

During a visit to the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol, Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Krivoruchko said that the Ministry of Defence has signed contracts for the supply of the "Tor-M2" air defence system.

Furthermore, he revealed plans to equip the air defence units deployed in the Arctic and the Far North with the Tor-M2DT air defence system. This is of great significance in the light of growing interest from a number of states in this region.
