VPK Signs a Contract with MoD to Start Strela R&D Work

The Military Industrial Company LLC (VPK LLC) and the Russian Ministry of Defence signed a contract on 7 December to start the research and development work on the Strela family of light armoured vehicles. This was revealed by the press service of VPK in a release on 14 December.

According to the general director of "VPK" LLC Alexander Krasovitsky, the company has received a technical task for the development next year of 4 new models of an armoured car of the light category of the "Strela" family, said VPK's press service.

It will be a multipurpose armoured vehicle, a chassis for the installation of weapons and special equipment based on it, a multipurpose unarmoured vehicle, and a chassis for the installation of special equipment on its base said Krasovitsky.

These samples will undergo preliminary tests in 2021, the schedule of these tests has already been agreed upon and approved. Prototypes of vehicles that are ready will also undergo the preliminary tests - the multipurpose armoured vehicle Strela and the protected amphibious vehicle Strela.

The Strela family of light armoured vehicles was developed by the initiative of VPK LLC. After the presentation of prototypes of vehicles to the top management of the Russian Ministry of Defence, it was decided to open the Strela ROC to meet the needs of the military department.

The basic model of the Strela family has a gross weight of up to 4.9 tons, has a class 2 general technical requirements security level, and is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 155 km / h on a highway.
