Russia, India to Jointly Develop Advanced Pyrotechnic Ignition Systems

On February 7, 2020, on the sidelines of DefExpo 2020, Russia's Rosoboronexport and India's DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) signed a technology development contract for developing Advanced Pyrotechnic Ignition Systems. The contract will enable DRDO'S HEMRL (High Energy Materials Research Laboratory) at Pune - which develops high energy materials required for missiles, rockets and guns - to develop advanced ignition systems.

According to HEMRL Director Shri. KPS Murthy, the technology infusion from Russia will meet futuristic requirements of high-performance propulsion systems and facilitate design and development of state of art solid rocket motors for upcoming products. These products will be based on compact and energy efficient propulsion systems.
