The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has announced that it will present a fundamentally new military aircraft, dubbed « Checkmate », on 20 July, the first day of the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon in Zhukovsky.

“Russia is one of the few countries in the world with full-cycle capacities for producing advanced aircraft systems, as well as a recognized trendsetter in the creation of combat aircraft,” a Rostec spokesman commented. “The new product developed by UAC specialists should arouse genuine interest not only in our country but also in other regions of the world, including our competitors abroad.”
An 'industry source' told the Russian news agency TASS that the upcoming aircraft, dubbed «Checkmate», could be a light fighter jet “with a supersonic speed capability and low radar signature. According to the trailer, this aircraft could be mainly oriented towards export.
Chess is a motif of the aircraft’s promotion which does not reveal that much. Adding to the intrigue, UAC tweeted on 11 July: “everything is easier than it seems. #checkmate. Something is planned.”

This year, the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021 will celebrate its fifteenth anniversary. The air show will be held from 20 to 25 July in Zhukovsky, near Moscow. All events within the framework of MAKS-2021 will be held taking into account the requirements to counter the spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
