Second Type 075 LHD launched today in Shanghai

Today the Chinese Navy has floated China's second amphibious assault ship, a Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) known as Type 075, in Shanghai by Hudong Zhonghua shipyard. The vessel is intended for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy).

Pictures shared by local ship spotters on Chinese social media confirmed the long-expected launch of the ship.

The new carrier is the second of the Type-075 class, large amphibious warfare ships. These ships are 40,000 tons and support troop landings. Open Source intelligence (OSINT) have been anticipating this launch for while. This new ship has been assembled and floated just months after the first was launched in September last year. Several more Type-075s are expected to be built, creating the best equipped amphibious navy after the U.S. Navy.

These new warships will give the Chinese Navy new capabilities in the coming years.
