ISS-62 Mission finishing its work


Onboard the International Space Station (ISS), the 62nd long-term mission is finishing its work. The Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft crew members Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka and NASA astronauts Andrew Morgan and Jessica Meir are getting ready to return to Earth according to the flight program.

On April 15 the crew changeover took place at the station. ISS-62 long-term mission commander Oleg Skripochka who has been in command of the station since February 2020 and ISS-63 mission commander Christopher Cassidy signed the transfer of authority act. Oleg Skripochka also wished the cosmonauts and astronauts a successful flight and passed over the symbolic key to the station to Christopher Cassidy. Concluding the ceremony, following an old maritime tradition astronaut Andrew Morgan rang the bell marking the changeover of missions.

At the moment, Oleg Skripochka, Andrew Morgan and Jessica Meir prepare for landing. In the Soyuz MS-15 descent module they will return to Earth all the retrievable equipment and boxes with scientific experiments’ results carried out onboard the ISS.

According to TsNIIMash Mission Control Center data (part of Roscosmos), the transfer hatches between the Zvezda module and Soyuz MS-15 crewed spacecraft is preliminary scheduled at 22:30 UTC on April 16, 2020, undocking – at 01:53 UTC on April 17, 2020, landing – at 05:16 UTC on the same day. All the operations will be broadcast live at Roscosmos official website and Roscosmos social networks accounts.

After the spacecraft undocking, the crew of ISS-63 long-term mission (Roscosmos cosmonauts Anatoly IvanishinIvan Vagner and NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy) will continue the work at low-Earth orbit.
