Ukraine Liquidates Ukroboronprom

Ukroboronprom, one of the 100 largest military-industrial companies in the world according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), will be liquidated, said Roman Bondar, deputy director general of Ukroboronprom.

According to him, instead of Ukroboronprom, at least six branch state corporations will be created within two years, around which consolidation of more than 100 enterprises of the concern will take place, having competencies related to rocket science, aviation, aircraft repair, armoured vehicles, radar and marine systems.

“As for the concern itself, in the form and in the role for which it was created, it will definitely cease to exist. We believe that Ukroboronprom should be liquidated as a result of the reform, ”said Bondar.

The reason for this is called the ineffective management of Ukroboronprom and the "lack of meaning for the existence of the concern."

“Redundancy of assets, large debts, technological backwardness, low product quality and high depreciation of equipment are cargo that drags to the bottom and prevents development,” said Bondar.

According to him, at present, 27 out of 116 companies included in Ukroboronprom account for 90 percent of the net income of the entire concern. In this regard, it is planned to withdraw 28 unprofitable enterprises from the structure of Ukroboronprom. Of the remaining companies, 38 will make up the “core of state corporations,” while the other 50 will undergo a recovery process.

In April, the director of the Kharkov Armored Plant, Vyacheslav Strelets, said that since the beginning of 2014, the specialists of his enterprise repaired and modernised about 400 tanks.
