The Sotnik third-generation combat system will be distinguished by its lightweight and increased protection due to the use of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibre.

The new infantry combat system will be a completely new development, but the experience gained in the framework of the Ratnik design and development project was taken into account in its creation.

It is planned that Sotnik will replace Ratnik in 2025, according to Sergey Chemezov, the General Director of Rostec. “This will be a fundamentally new outfit, which will integrate the best high-tech developments of Russian enterprises, including those of Rostec,” he said.

Sotnik is based on the use of strong and lightweight polyethylene fibre. It is designed to fit the fighter's figure, and thanks to the elasticity of the material, the design will not hinder movement and will allow the fighter to carry additional equipment. At the same time, the protection level against external damage of the Sotnik system will be significantly higher than that of its predecessors. In the future, Sotnik will be able not only to stop the splinter flying at speeds up to 670 m/s, but also to extinguish the shock impulse through the use of special shock-absorbing means.
