The serial production of the civilian version of the OSV-96 large-caliber sniper rifle, the MTs 567, has started in Russia, reported TASS on Monday. The agency cited the press service of the High-Precision Complexes holding.
"In 2019, work was completed on the creation of a civilian version of the OSV-96 rifle. The MTs 567 civilian carbine passed all the necessary tests with a positive result, the first batch of serial samples was made," the holding said.
In August 2018, at the ARMY-2018 forum, Alexei Sorokin, who was then the director of TsKIB SOO, told TASS about the beginning of the development of a civilian version of the OSV-96 sniper rifle of 12.7 mm caliber. According to him, design tests were to begin before 2019.
At the same time, the press service of the High-Precision Complexes noted an increase in demand for 12.7 mm caliber in the civilian market in places where minerals are mined, laying pipelines and in geological exploration areas.
OSV-96 is a Russian large-caliber sniper rifle designed to defeat enemy personnel and equipment at long distances. The rifle uses a powerful cartridge 12.7 x 107 mm (both machine gun and specialized sniper), its sighting range is 1,800 m. The volume of the OSV-96 magazine is five rounds. The rifle is in service with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB of Russia.
