KAVKAZ 2020 : 9 Foreign Participants

KAVKAZ 2020 (Caucasus-2020) multilateral strategic command-post exercise are to take place this month from 21 to 26 September. Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said at a video conference Tuesday that the drills will involve nine foreign states.

"The exercise will take place from September 21 to 26 and will complete a set of measures for operational and combat training of the Armed Forces this year," said Shoigu at a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Armed Forces.

He also noted that "the participation of military contingents of nine foreign countries is planned [in the KAVKAZ 2020 exercise]. Nine more countries will send military observers to Russia."

The strategic exercise is aimed at assessing the ability of the armed forces to ensure military security in Russia’s southwest, where serious terrorist threats persist and preparing for the strategic command-staff drills. The main training grounds that will be involved are located in the Southern Military District.
