Russian Baltic Fleet Drills

The Russian Baltic Fleet combat ships and the combat teams of S-400 ‘Triumf’ surface-to-air missile systems of the Fleet's air defence forces conducted separate drills, reported the Fleet's press office on Tuesday.

According to TASS , the S-400 combat teams started tracking, locked on and notionally destroyed air attack weapons by electronic launches when the targets entered the far-off area of the launchers’ striking range, the press office of the Fleet specified. "Under the drills’ scenario, the notional enemy planned to deliver a massive missile and bomb strike on infrastructural facilities. The alert teams detected the enemy aircraft at a large distance with the help of Nebo-U air surveillance radars," the press office said in a statement.

The S-400 anti-aircraft gunners accomplished their combat training assignments under intensive enemy jamming, the statement says. The scheduled drills "involved about 20 items of military and special hardware," the press office specified.

As for the Baltic Fleet naval drills, about 20 combat ships and support vessels have been deployed to the sea to accomplish assignments during scheduled drills. "The planned tactical drills at combat training ranges in the Baltic Sea will practice the personnel’s skills in the exercise of assigned missions, assess the readiness of the Fleet’s forces for operations as part of tactical groups for anti-submarine warfare, air defence and mine countermeasures," the press office said in a statement.

The ships’ crews will also conduct qualification missile and artillery firings against various types of sea and air targets. During the drills, the sailors will practice measures amid radiation and chemical contamination and ship damage control, the statement says. The press office specified that"overall, up to 20 combat ships and boats and also support vessels of the Baltic Fleet have been involved in practicing missions at sea."
