Watch Msta-S Howitzer & Orlan-10E in Joint Operation

Experts from Uralvagonzavod demonstrated to representatives of "a foreign customer" the possibilities of joint operation of the Msta-S self-propelled howitzer, upgraded to NATO's 155 mm caliber, and the Orlan-10E reconnaissance drone.

The press service of the Rostec State Corporation said that The demonstration took place at the Staratel training ground in Nizhny Tagil.  During the demonstration, the artillery mount created by Uraltransmash fired at a maximum range of 40 kilometers and showed excellent interaction with the UAV. 

 

“The foreign customer was shown the combat capabilities of the modernised 155-mm self-propelled howitzer 2S19M1-155 as part of the artillery complex. The installation fired at a maximum distance of 40 km with the restoration of the aiming in automatic mode. Msta-S showed excellent results of interaction with the control vehicle and the Orlan-10E unmanned aerial vehicle,",the  armament complex of Rostec reported

In the course of joint work, the Orlan-10E UAV carried out the transfer of the coordinates of the target to the control machine, which calculated the installation for firing and sent them to the crew of the self-propelled howitzer.

Orlan-10 is a medium-range, multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Russian firm Special Technology Center LLC in St. Petersburg. The UAV is in service with the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. It is intended for a variety of missions including aerial reconnaissance, observation, monitoring, search and rescue, combat training, jamming, detection of radio signals, and target tracking in hard-to-reach terrains.

The modernized 155mm Msta-S self-propelled howitzer is designed to engage (neutralize) enemy artillery and mortar batteries; tanks, anti-tank and other armored vehicles; manpower and fire means, control points, air defence, missile defence, and electronic weaponry; destroy field fortifications and other defensive structures; deny the enemy’s ability to maneuver its infantry and armored reserves.

The self-propelled howitzer can deliver both indirect and direct fire only at the halt without the preliminary preparation of firing positions. The laying method is automatic, semi-automatic, manual.
