Flight tests of the  Vikhr guided missiles have been successfully completed. The tests were conducted by the Kalashnikov Concern together with the Russian Aerospace Forces of the Ministry of Defence,  the National Helicopter Center named after Mikhail Mil and Nikolay Kamov” (NHC), KBP Instrument Design Bureau.

As part of the trials, a Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and combat helicopter fired 22 missile launches. Vikhr missiles are designed to destroy moving armoured vehicles, enemy fortifications, and low-speed air targets.

"Among the improvements to the missile are increasing the probability of hitting a target during short-range launches, in addition to increasing the stability in flight" - said the press service of Kalashnikov Concern in a statement.

According to the statement, these tests have confirmed the effectiveness of the modifications. Work had been positive results for assessing the possibility of hitting targets at ranges of up to 10 kilometers, which significantly exceeds those specified in the development of the rocket performance characteristics.

Vikhr is a Russian laser guided anti-tank missile (designation "9K121"). The missile can be launched from warships, Ka-50 and Ka-52 helicopters, and Su-25T aircraft. It was first shown publicly at the 1992 Farnborough Airshow.

Ka-52 Alligator is the next-generation reconnaissance and combat helicopter designed to destroy tanks, armoured and non-armoured ground targets, and enemy troops and helicopters both on the front line and in tactical reserves. The helicopter can operate around the clock and in all weather conditions. The Ka-52 can provide target acquisition and designation for helicopter teams and ground troop command and control centres. It can also provide fire support for troop landings, fly routine patrols and escort military convoys.

Main performance characteristics of the Vikhr missile:

Parameter Value
Speed m/s 610
Range m. 800-10000
Hight m. 10-4000
The thickness of homogeneous armour behind explosive reactive armour penetrated by tandem-charge warheads, mm. 750
