Bilateral relations between Russia and Indonesia, including through military agencies, have all the prerequisites for reaching a strategic level. This was stated by Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu at talks in Moscow with the head of the military Department of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
«We consider Indonesia as one of the most important partners of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region. Cooperation with Indonesia is traditionally based on friendship and mutual trust. We note that there are prerequisites for bringing bilateral ties to the level of strategic partnership, « the Russian Defence Minister said.
Sergey Shoigu also expressed hope that this year a corresponding Declaration on strategic partnership will be signed. This event will be an important milestone in bilateral relations.
«We are ready to continue to coordinate joint actions for the progressive development of Russian-Indonesian relations, including in the field of military and military-technical cooperation, as well as in a multilateral format through the ADMM-plus dialogue partners,» the head of the Russian military Department said.
