Thorough modernisation of the helicopter has significantly expanded the range of its applications, as well as the efficiency of firefighting operations. The increased power of the new VK-2500PS-02 engines have improved the helicopter's performance in hot conditions and in altitudes of over 2 km with maximum take-off weigh. The engines also have an improved service life. The new complex of avionics equipment expands possibilities of piloting in difficult weather conditions, reducing the load on flight crews. Thanks to the adaptation of night vision goggles, the helicopter can be operated day and night.

The new fire-extinguishing system SP-32, developed by the National Helicopter Center Mil&Kamov and the Kumertau Aviation Production Enterprise, allows the aircraft to drop up to 4 tonnes of water with up to 400 litres of foam agent at the source of fire. The water intake is automatic and its discharge is through a digitally-controlled flap system. The patented flap system allows water to be discharged from four tanks, either in pairs or alternately, with the flaps having adjustable opening angles to increase the water discharge time. It is also possible to extinguish fires in high-rise buildings using a water cannon. Thanks to the SP-32’s electronic heating system, it is the first fire-fighting helicopter in the world able to operate at temperatures as low as -20° C.

Russian Helicopters is ready to start deliveries of the upgraded Ka-32A11M in 2022. Production will be rolled out at the Kumertau Aviation Production Enterprise. The Ka-32 family is in high demand on the world market, with more than 30 countries operating the helicopters. In total, more than 240 machines of this type have been produced.
