"The delegation of Rosoboronexport will discuss with foreign partners the prospects for cooperation on the supply of the latest models of helicopters of the world famous Mi and Ka brands abroad. Despite the global difficulties, we assess the dynamics of contracting and replenishment of the order book for Russian rotary-wing aircraft predicted for the coming years as good. The needs of world market is not met yet, rather, on the contrary, this niche is expanding, mainly due to the versatility of helicopter technology, which can be used everywhere by law enforcement and civil structures, primarily in emergency situations, "said Alexander Mikheev, General Director of Rosoboronexport.

In the helicopter segment, Rosoboronexport's partners are represented by more than 70 countries in the Middle East, Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, Africa, CIS, Europe, where Russian vehicles are in service with army, anti-terrorist, special units, law enforcement agencies and emergency services. This is a reliable, durable technique that has been successfully tested in combat and difficult climatic conditions, setting dozens of world records in various categories. Reconnaissance and strike missions, amphibious and rescue operations, the organization of urgent medical assistance to the population in areas remote from the basing points - they can do everything.

The most popular and therefore the most widespread in the world in their class for many years are the bestsellers of the world market - military transport helicopters of the Mi-8/17 type. Combat vehicles such as the Mi-35, Ka-52 and Mi-28, modernised taking into account the experience of their actual use in the "hot spots" of the planet, are gradually filling their niche. Foreign partners traditionally show great interest in the “heavyweight” Mi-26T2, which is the absolute champion in its class.

Today, all Russian helicopters are manufactured by the enterprises of the Russian Helicopters Holding of the State Corporation Rostec, which have a large production, scientific, and technical potential. The training of foreign specialists is organised both in Russia and abroad.

Examples of recent years related to the development of Russian helicopter exports, in particular, include the following:

  • Signing of the first export contract for the supply of multipurpose Mi-38T;
  • Creation of a joint Russian-Indian enterprise for the production of Ka-226T;
  • Opening in Venezuela a training helicopter center created with the participation of specialists from the two countries.

Special attention should be paid to the experience of successful operation of Mi-171E helicopters in a special "northern" performance in Argentina, where Russian aircraft operate effectively in the harshest Antarctic conditions. In 2020 this contract "turns" 10 years old.

"For almost 20 years, more than 1000 Russian helicopters of various modifications have been delivered abroad under Rosoboronexport contracts. Rosoboronexport and Russian industrial enterprises are implementing projects in the areas of repair and modernisation of equipment, its after-sales service, including on the basis of the established service technical centres. Together with the Russian Helicopters Holding, [ROE] systematically works in the areas of combating counterfeit and protecting the rights to the results of intellectual property in the process of military-technical cooperation related to an increase in the volume of work in the framework of research activities, the organization of licensed production, the creation of joint ventures and other projects, in of which there is a transfer of Russian military and dual-use technologies," stressed Mikheev on the first day of HeliRussia-2020.

For 12 years, HeliRussia-2020 has rightfully won the high status of a landmark event for the global helicopter industry, within which market professionals exchange experience, discuss current projects and plans for the future, and present cutting-edge developments. Leading industry experts from all over the world gather here annually, interested in the latest products, innovative technologies and other production achievements of the Russian and world helicopter industry. That is why the business program of JSC Rosoboronexport at HeliRussia-2020 includes not only negotiations with partners, but also the participation of company specialists in round tables and conferences, seminars and presentations.
