The Rostec State Corporation has completed the delivery of 4.5-mm special underwater pistols SPP-1M and special APS submachine guns of 5.66 mm caliber to a foreign partner. This was announced today by the press service of Rostec.
The weapons were developed at the TsNIITochMash (Central Scientific - Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering) of the Rostec State Corporation and are intended for arming special-purpose units.
The SPP-1M pistol is capable of hitting targets underwater at a distance of up to 17 metres at a depth and up to 20 metres when firing in the air. A special 5.66-mm APS underwater assault rifle hits targets at a range of up to 30 metres underwater, as well as at a range of up to 100 metres when firing on land.
“Water, in comparison with air, has a higher density, as a result, it is impossible to use classical firearms in an aquatic environment. Therefore, divisions of combat swimmers-scuba divers are armed with specialized small arms. Due to their characteristics and reliability, underwater weapons, like many other products of Rostec, are in strong demand abroad, especially in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region,” said the Rostec Arms Cluster.
Together with the weapons, a batch of ammunition was delivered to the customer. The main design feature of the cartridges is a long-length steel monolithic bullet with a truncated-conical head. Due to this, an empty area is formed in front of the bullet when moving in water at high speed - a cavity, which reduces the resistance of the water and stabilizes the ammunition in the water environment.
