"Now the main work to be done in the near future is preparing for flight tests of the Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile," Rogozin said in his speech at Korolyevskiy readings in Moscow.

It was reported that the Sarmat ICBM passed successful throw tests, and preparations were underway for flight tests. The RS-28 Sarmat ICBM will replace the world's most powerful silo-based strategic missile RS-20V Voevoda (NATO classification SS-18 Satan) in the Uzhurskaya (Krasnoyarsk Territory) and Dombarovskaya (Orenburgskaya Oblast) divisions of the Strategic Missile Forces.

Rearmament to this missile system is planned to begin in 2021 in the missile regiments of the Uzhur missile division. The Sarmat missile is planned to be mass-produced at the Krasmash machine-building plant (Roscosmos).

"This is a heavy ballistic missile that is capable of overcoming or tearing to shreds literally any anti-missile defence. This is the basis of the country's strategic potential," Rogozin said earlier on the Russia 24 TV channel.
