According to Rostec, all the equipment, accessories and tools necessary for the repair have been installed at the customer's base in order to allow servicing the equipment without transporting it to the manufacturer's base.

Four specialists of the Moscow Engineering Enterprise of the United Engine Corporation have already carried out additional retraining and replaced the combustion chamber module of the RD-33MK engine on the territory of the operating organisation.

“Previously, if the combustion chamber was damaged, the engine was sent to the manufacturer for repair, which took more than six months in total. Execution of works on technological processes of modular repair made it possible to reduce the repair time to three weeks ,” said the head of the operation department Yury Zhelnov.

The design of the RD-33MK engine, intended for the MiG-29 family aircraft, allows for large-scale replacement of individual engine elements. To replace the module of the main combustion chamber, it was necessary to dismantle a number of other modules, which in itself is a piece of jewelry and requires special precision.

The engine restored using a unique technology has successfully passed ground tests as part of the aircraft and provided more than 20 hours of flight operation without any remarks.

Currently, the the Moscow Engineering Enterprise (MME) is expanding the geography of service centres. Modular engine repair works are a priority area of the company's operation department.
