Il-76MD-90A Successfully Passes Airtightness Tests

The team of the Ulyanovsk Aircraft Manufacturing Company Aviastar-SP JSC (part of the Transport Aviation Division of PJSC UAC, part of the Rostec State Corporation) has successfully completed the airtightness tests of the next serial transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A, which is being built under the 2020 production program.

“The company's specialists performed a test of the new transporter with air under a certain pressure according to the sequence and the set time,” UAC press service quoted Vyacheslav Loginov, deputy production manager.

Next, the aircraft will have to undergo a sprinkling procedure or a moisture test. Such verification is carried out by simulating rainfall of a certain intensity using a special installation. Each fuselage compartment is tested separately. The goal is to determine the places of possible penetration of moisture into the fuselage, the components of the airframe, the determination of stagnant zones of moisture accumulation and the effectiveness of drainage holes.

After sprinkling, the machine will be transferred to the final assembly plant for subsequent testing.

IL-76MD-90A is a deeply modernised version of the well-proven IL-76 aircraft. “Aviation Complex named after S.V. Ilyushin" is the developer. The new flight and navigation system, automatic control system, communications system, and a “glass” cockpit meet all modern requirements for aircraft avionics and significantly increase flight safety, accuracy of navigation and landing.
